How We Build a Pole Barn Garage
A lot of pole barn garages get built fast and cheap. Here’s how ours go together:
- Posts on concrete, not in the dirt. Every column is anchored to concrete with heavy steel brackets.
- Real slab. When we pour the floor, it’s a 4–5 inch slab.
- Tighter girts. Wall girts at 2-foot spacing, not 4.
- Heavier steel. 26-gauge exterior panels with lifetime paint, wall panels lined up with the roof panels.
- Hangar-style purlins for better wind resistance than over-the-top purlins.
- Fastened right. Mostly hand-nailed, with screws placed so you’re not relying on a washer in the flat of the panel.
- Gutter aprons on every build so the gutter board doesn’t rot.
